ArtFond or Squarespace: which to choose as an artist in 2026

Squarespace is one of the best website builders for people who care how their site looks. ArtFond isn't a website builder: it's an artist's site plus the documents an artist has to produce anyway. Below is the same comparison we do for every platform: the facts, prices as of the day we checked them, and an honest word on who is better off staying with Squarespace.

Who is better off staying with Squarespace

  • You want full control over the look. Squarespace has an editor where you can change anything, and from the Core plan your own CSS and JavaScript as well. ArtFond has templates, variants, and settings, but not an editor for every pixel.
  • You need paid content or memberships. Subscriber-only sections, online courses, membership programmes: Squarespace has them. ArtFond has a blog and art services with booking and payment (workshops, consultations), but no subscriber-only sections.
  • You already have a Squarespace site you like. Then ArtFond can sit alongside it: the catalogue, certificates, and application documents work regardless of where your main site lives.

Who ArtFond is for

  • You produce the documents by hand every time. Portfolio PDF, CV, artist statement, a certificate for a sold artwork: in ArtFond all of it is assembled from one catalogue. Add an artwork and it's in the next portfolio.
  • You apply to open calls and residencies. A board of opportunities and an application pack drawn from what's already on your site.
  • You don't want to look after the technical side. Domain, hosting, updates, security are ours, for good. Squarespace needs no administering either, but the design, structure, and texts you put together yourself.
  • You need several languages from one catalogue. Seven languages without separate pages for each.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move my site from Squarespace to ArtFond? Yes. Give us a link to your site: ArtFond reads the artworks with their titles and descriptions straight from Squarespace and builds a draft. You look at it before deciding anything. You move the domain whenever you like.

Can I keep both? Yes. Some people keep their site on Squarespace and run the catalogue, certificates, and application documents in ArtFond.

What about the shop and commissions? Both have a shop. ArtFond takes no platform commission when you're paid through your own Stripe or PayPal; Squarespace takes 0% from Core and 2% on Basic. The payment provider's fee applies in both.

Will switching help me sell more? Not the switch by itself. A clear artwork page with a price, a Buy button, and a convenient way to pay raise the likelihood of a sale, but don't guarantee it, and Squarespace has them too. No site brings buyers on its own: it receives the people who are already interested in your work.
