Which website builder should an artist choose in 2026—and how ArtFond differs

If you're searching for a website builder for artists, you most likely want one of two things: a place to show your work that you're not embarrassed to send a link to, or a way to sell it without a middleman. Website builders can do both. Below is a plain look at the ones artists consider most often, with prices as of the day we checked them, and an explanation of what ArtFond does differently and who it isn't for.

What an artist actually needs from a website

When a gallery, a curator, or a buyer writes to an artist, they don't ask for "a website". They ask for specific things: a link to the portfolio, a PDF of the works, a CV, an artist statement, the price and dimensions, a certificate for the artwork they bought. The website is where all of that lives. A website builder gives you the place. The rest you assemble by hand: the PDF in Canva, the CV in Word, the certificate from a template found online, and all over again every time there's a new artwork.

  1. ArtFond takes no platform commission when you're paid through your own Stripe or PayPal. Squarespace, Pixpa, and Format take no platform commission on sales; Wix takes none either. The payment provider's fee applies everywhere.
  2. Through separate pages for each language.
  3. The domain is free for the first year only.
  4. The shop takes up to 15 products on Pro and up to 1,000 on Pro Plus.
  5. Squarespace and Wix price by country; the table shows US prices. Opened from Ukraine on 29 September 2026, Squarespace Core was $17. In the US, Wix Business is $39.
  6. Artlogic is a system for galleries and studios. Its artist plan, Essential, starts at £95 a month: up to 1,500 artworks in the inventory, 200 on the website, private views (PDF and online), invoices and payments; several website languages only on Professional from £241. Own domain connects via DNS; a cart with checkout via Stripe is an optional e-commerce add-on on request; certificates of authenticity aren't described in Artlogic's help centre.
  7. Pixpa: Creator $9 (shop up to 10 products), Professional $12 (up to 100), annual billing; several languages via the GTranslate machine-translation widget. Format: several languages via the Weglot add-on (separate subscription).

What this shows: every one of them gives you a site, a domain, and a shop for roughly $9–39 a month. None of the website builders produces the documents an artist takes to a gallery or a buyer. That isn't a flaw; they never promised it. They're built for any business, and a coffee shop doesn't need a certificate of authenticity. ArtFond starts with the same site and shop and adds the documents, at a similar price.

A separate case: Artlogic

Artlogic isn't a website builder but a system for galleries and studios: inventory, sales through offers and invoices, private views, mailings, with a website as one of the modules. Artists get the Essential plan from £95 a month; several website languages only on Professional from £241 (artlogic.net/pricing, 29 September 2026). If you run a studio with assistants, an inventory of hundreds of works, and sales through galleries, that's your shelf. For an artist running their own practice, it's a different scale and a different price: £95 a month against €15 at ArtFond.

What ArtFond does differently

ArtFond starts where a website builder does: a site, your own domain, a shop, seven languages. Then comes what builders don't have, all drawn from a single catalogue of your works:

  • Documents from the catalogue, not on the side. The portfolio PDF, CV, and artist statement are assembled from your artworks and your bio. Add an artwork and it's in the next portfolio.
  • A certificate of authenticity for every artwork. Issued from your account, with a record of the issue: the certificate is checked by its QR code on your site.
  • A catalogue and documents for applications. A board of open calls, residencies, and grants; for an application, the document pack is assembled from what's already on your site.
  • Private selections for collectors and curators. Tag the artworks and send a link to the selection, protected by a password and with an expiry date (on the Unlimited plan).
  • Printed things for an exhibition. QR labels, stickers, a poster, all with the same artwork data (from the Pro plan).
  • Papers for taking artworks abroad. An inventory list, photo sheets for the expert examination, a checklist, all from the artwork records.
  • The technical side is ours, for good. Domain, hosting, updates, security. No need for a friend who knows how to code.
  • Everything is yours. The domain is yours, and the catalogue with descriptions exports in full. If you leave, you leave with all of it.

Price: from €19 a month, or €179 a year (about €15 a month). 14 days free, no card required. So it's cheaper than, or in line with, an ordinary website builder. The site, the shop, the documents, and the certificates are on Starter already; QR labels, the press kit, and invoices come with Pro (€39 a month, or €369 a year); the certificate register and contracts are on Unlimited. Platform commission on direct sales through your own Stripe or PayPal is 0%.

Who ArtFond isn't for

Honestly, because it will save you two weeks:

  • Photographers with client shoots. Galleries where the client picks and downloads photos from a shoot, and shoot contracts—that's Pixpa and Format. In ArtFond, private viewing is made for something else: a selection of artworks for a collector or a curator.
  • Anyone who needs full control over the design. We have templates, variants, and settings, but not an editor where you can move every pixel. For that, Squarespace or Wix.
  • Galleries with a team and an inventory. Records for thousands of works, staff roles, sales through managers—that's Artlogic.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a website builder? No. A website builder gives you a blank page and an editor. ArtFond gives you a finished site built from your artworks and your bio, and with it the documents an artist has to produce anyway: portfolio, CV, certificates, application packs.

How much does it cost? From €19 a month, or €179 a year. Three plans; the difference is the number of artworks and the extra tools. 14 days free, no card required. Prices are at artfond.me/pricing.

Can I connect my own domain? Yes, on every plan. The domain stays yours.

Can I take my data with me? Yes. The catalogue of artworks with descriptions and images exports in full, and you move the domain wherever you like.

How is an ArtFond certificate different from a template found online? It's issued from your account and has a QR code that anyone can use to check it on your site. We don't claim it can't be forged—but it can be verified.

Will the site help me sell more? A clear artwork page with a price, a Buy button, and a convenient way to pay raise the likelihood of a sale, but don't guarantee it: they remove the obstacles between interest and purchase. No site brings buyers on its own: it receives the people who are already interested in your work. How many people come depends on your practice, not on us.
